Ritornano le Giornate FAI d’Autunno: il 16 e il 17 ottobre con 600 aperture di luoghi d’arte e natura in 300 città d’Italia.

LA SPEZIA - L’AERONAUTICA TRA LA GENTE: L’AEROPORTO DI CADIMARE E LA BORGATA MARINARA
L'aeroporto di Cadimare "Luigi Conti" è situato nella parte occidentale del golfo della Spezia e risale agli anni '20 del secolo scorso.

L'attività di volo, inizialmente gestita dalla Marina Militare, nel 1923 divenne di pertinenza della neo-costituita Aeronautica Militare, la quale individuò per la costruzione di un idroscalo proprio l'area nell'insenatura di Cadimare, dove la società Ansaldo aveva dei capannoni per l'assemblaggio ed il collaudo degli idrovolanti per la Marina. Questo luogo occupa un ruolo importante nella storia e dell'aviazione e della cultura italiana : da qui infatti decollò per la prima volta un idroaeroplano e da questo idroscalo il poeta Marinetti era solito partire per i voli che gli ispirarono il manifesto dell'Aeropittura e l'Aeropoema del Golfo della Spezia.

Gli edifici benché abbiano uno stile architettonico ancora ottocentesco, sono stati eretti negli anni '20 del ‘900 insieme al resto del complesso.

COSA SCOPRIRETE DURANTE LE GIORNATE FAI?
Si ammirerà la Palazzina Comando con suggestioni Liberty nella splendida scala interna e nella ringhiera di ferro lavorato. Si visiterà la Palazzina Ufficiali, costruita nel 1928, progettata dall'architetto ed ingegnere Costantino Costantini, il quale ebbe l'incarico di realizzare un edificio che fungesse sia da alloggio che da circolo per gli ufficiali di uno stormo di idrovolanti. L'impronta costruttiva della Palazzina è di chiara matrice razionalista, caratterizzata dalla massima semplicità e funzionalità, sia nell'aspetto esterno che nella distribuzione interna degli ambienti. Realizzata con pregiati materiali da costruzione, quali il laterizio, la pietra, il marmo, il legno, il vetro e le ceramiche è edificata sulla punta estrema lato sud-est dell'insenatura di Cadimare, dalla quale si può godere un bellissimo panorama sul Golfo. Inaugurata nel 1934, s'inserisce armoniosamente nella zona verde che la circonda. I volumi della struttura, che si possono definire "solari" e concepiti per essere ammirati nel contesto dello scenario del Golfo, sono semplici ed eleganti, con vuoti e pieni creati dalle terrazze ai vari piani, di cui la più ampia e sviluppata è quella al piano terreno. Da un punto di vista strutturale si possono riconoscere quattro parallelepipedi di varie altezze con coperture piane, caratterizzati da finestre di taglio e dimensioni diverse. Il massimo sviluppo in altezza è dato dal corpo centrale, con quattro piani fuori terra; nella facciata lato mare sono presenti ampie finestre che spalancano sul Golfo. Nella Palazzina Ufficiali si visiterà lo studio di Italo Balbo con gli arredi originali e si conoscerà la storia dell'Aeronautica e degli idrovolanti attraverso immagini storiche dell'archivio e filmati. Si visiterà poi la palazzina che ospita l'Istituto Umberto Maddalena, il quale fa parte dell'Opera Nazionale per i Figli degli Aviatori (O.N.F.A.). Anche qui saranno presenti reperti dell'epoca futurista e si potrà conoscere un particolare aspetto dell'Aeronautica, non a tutti noto, quello filantropico, di assistenza agli orfani dell'Arma. L'ONFA, nata nel 1931 a Gorizia e dal 1958 con sede presso la base di Cadimare, ha come scopo l'accoglienza degli orfani dell'Aeronautica per la frequenza scolastica dalla III elementare fino al diploma ed è dedicata a Umberto Maddalena. Importante figura dell'Aeronautica italiana, fu insignito di numerosi riconoscimenti per le sue azioni durante la I Guerra Mondiale, fu tra i membri delle squadre di soccorso alla ricerca dei naufraghi del dirigibile Italia comandato dal Generale Umberto Nobile, dispersi nell'Artico ed ebbe un ruolo fondamentale nell'organizzazione della Crociera aerea transatlantica Italia-Brasile, la prima trasvolata atlantica di massa. Morì nel marzo 1931 nell'esplosione del suo S.64 Bis durante un normale volo di trasferimento. Nel giardino poi si potranno visitare 4 aerei antichi e un elicottero. La visita al complesso permetterà di conoscere da vicino la storia dell'aeronautica e la sua missione, l'aspetto filantropico di assistenza agli orfani dell'Arma, l'evoluzione del mezzo aereo, le trasvolate atlantiche, l'architettura negli anni del Futurismo e i suoi dintorni, periodo che ha visto La Spezia e i suoi dintorni protagonista indiscussa di quell'epoca.

LEVANTO, LA SPEZIA - PODERE CASE LOVARA
Proteso verso il mare cristallino, il promontorio di Punta Mesco separa la baia di Levanto da quella di Monterosso. I 45 ettari di proprietà del FAI comprendono tre fabbricati rurali, oltre a lussureggianti aree boschive a lecci e pini, alternate a zone di macchia mediterranea. Nel tempo, la straordinaria coesistenza tra mare e vegetazione permise lo sviluppo di un'eccezionale biodiversità, dove la secolare presenza dell'uomo riuscì a plasmare il territorio con mano sapiente, senza tuttavia alterare i fragili equilibri ecologici.

Nel 1999 venne istituito il Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre, le cui nuove regole salvarono l'area da diversi progetti di edificazione ma, al tempo stesso, posero fine alla lunga storia dell'insediamento umano a Punta Mesco. La natura, quando è abbandonata a sé stessa, può cancellare una storia di secoli: il bosco avanza danneggiando gli edifici, “mangiando” le colture fino a far crollare i muretti a secco che sostengono i tipici terrazzamenti, i quali, oltre a ricavare spazi per la coltivazione, svolgono una funzione di difesa dal rischio idrogeologico.

La donazione ha permesso al FAI, con il decisivo supporto della Fondazione Zegna, di intervenire con un progetto nel rispetto dei principi del Parco riportando, al tempo stesso, l'area alla sua storica funzione di produzione agricola, il cui fabbisogno energetico sarà fornito per il 60% da fonti rinnovabili. La prima fase del recupero è stata caratterizzata dal ripristino di edifici e terrazzamenti, sui quali sono stati ricavati spazi utili a coltivare ulivo, vite e alberi da frutto e orti. I visitatori troveranno spazi di accoglienza, la possibilità di effettuare visite che raccontano la storia e le prospettive dell'insediamento, oltre a suggerimenti preziosi sui dintorni e sui numerosi sentieri di uno fra i paesaggi più tipici e affascinanti di tutta la Liguria.

COSA SCOPRIRETE DURANTE LE GIORNATE FAI?
Visita guidata del Podere: racconteremo la storia del promontorio di Punta Mesco, delle genti che lo hanno abitato e della missione del FAI in questo luogo. Vi parleremo inoltre delle sfide più grandi che abbiamo affrontato e di come le abbiamo vinte riportando in vita uno spicchio di territorio con mille anni di storia. Mini Trekking a Punta Mesco: con Marta, Guida Ambientale-Escursionistica, andremo alla scoperta della macchia mediterranea, passeggiando fra il Podere ed il culmine di Punta Mesco dove emergono i resti del monastero di S. Antonio e della base semaforica della Marina Militare, dei quali ascolteremo la storia con lo sfondo mozzafiato delle Cinque Terre. Storie (vere) di lupi: racconti tratti da fatti storici, dati scientifici ed esperienze personali su questo affascinante mammifero che oramai è tornato a far parte integrante del nostro territorio, sullo sfondo della foresta mediterranea di Punta Mesco. Una chiacchierata per scoprire di più, sfatare miti e stimolare l'attenzione sulla realtà della natura selvaggia che ci circonda. LA SPEZIA - MUSEO E CENTRO DI DOCUMENTAZIONE DELL’ARCHIVIO STORICO OTO MELARA
Sito presso lo stabilimento della ex OTO Melara, oggi Divisione Elettronica di Leonardo, il Centro di consultazione dell'Archivio Storico è anche sede dell'Associazione Museo della Melara che, fin dal 1985, persegue la tutela, la promozione e la valorizzazione dei documenti storici e la memoria del passato aziendale, attraverso ricerche e pubblicazioni sull'Archivio e sulla cultura d'impresa.

La sede, inaugurata a dicembre 2019, è dotata di postazioni multimediali per la consultazione del patrimonio video e fotografico digitalizzato. Un nucleo di filmati storici provenienti dal Fondo Restani, sono fruibili dal portale “La Fabbrica in pellicola”, recuperati e ricondizionati grazie al sostegno della Compagnia di San Paolo, nell'ambito del bando “I Luoghi della Cultura” 2018. Tra questi, ad esempio, “Storia di un uomo e di un M113” (1965), un affascinante esempio di cinema industriale che affianca attori ad operai e maestranze, in cui si narra la realizzazione del mezzo corazzato M 113 attraverso la storia di un padre e un figlio, in un ideale passaggio tra generazioni.

All'interno dello spazio sono esposti dei modelli in scala di prodotti storici del settore terrestre come i celebri Leopard e Ghepard e, all'esterno, un prototipo recentemente restaurato dell'Otomatic del 1980; il settore navale è rappresentato invece da modelli tra cui il 76/62 mm e l'OTO compatto 127/54. La biblioteca tecnica aziendale raccoglie, inoltre, volumi specializzati, una collezione di riviste di settore come la “The Weekly of Advanced Technology”, monografie, brochure e schede prodotto. Su richiesta la possibilità di consultare altri documenti d'Archivio quali libri matricola degli operai, corrispondenze, progetti, planimetrie e disegni tecnici.

Un luogo custode di una documentazione, materiale e immateriale, preziosissima non solo per la storia tecnologico-scientifica e industriale, ma che svela anche quegli aspetti di vita aziendale che hanno contribuito a rendere la OTO Melara, oggi Leonardo, un'eccellenza riconosciuta a livello internazionale.

LERICI, FRAZ. PUGLIOLA, LA SPEZIA - VILLA REZZOLA
Villa Rezzola è una antica dimora signorile immersa in un ampio e rigoglioso giardino terrazzato. Documentata già nel Settecento, essa sorge su resti medievali di origine militare e fu progressivamente ampliata e rimodernata nei due secoli successivi. Nel 1900 venne acquistata da Helen Lavinia e William Percy Cochrane, autori di buona parte delle trasformazioni. La proprietà passò nel 1935 alla contessa Mara Braida Carnevale e quindi a sua figlia Maria Adele detta Pupa, che qui visse con il marito Piero Gualberto Miniati e che con lui decise di lasciare Villa Rezzola in eredità al FAI "perché fosse tutelata, valorizzata e resa accessibile a molti frequentatori”.

Dalle terrazze della casa si gode una vista eccezionale sul Golfo dei Poeti, che spazia da Lerici a Portovenere e che sin dall'Ottocento conquistò il cuore di una folta schiera di letterati e artisti, da Shelley e Byron a Lawrence. Altrettanto eccezionale è il giardino all'inglese: un lungo pergolato di glicine lo attraversa, separando boschetti e zone coltivate - un roseto, un orto e un frutteto -, da un monumentale prato, solcato da un viale per il passeggio, bordato da siepi con vasi fioriti e corredato di vasche e fontane. Grazie a una solida organizzazione del lavoro botanico, al complesso sistema idrico e alla presenza di edifici specifici, vengono create e cresciute direttamente in loco le piante destinate al giardino e i fiori da taglio. Molte e varie essenze ombreggiano il parco, rare e preziose come gli alberi di canfora e magnolia, ma anche cipressi, ulivi e un bosco di lecci che si estende su terrazzamenti che scendono fin quasi al mare.

Gli interni, perfettamente conservati negli arredi, nelle decorazioni e negli oggetti di famiglia, raccontano la storia inedita e affascinante di chi ha abitato la villa: dai nobili liguri Orazio ed Elisa Botti, ai facoltosi coniugi inglesi Cochrane, al capitano tedesco Rudolf Jacobs durante la Seconda Guerra mondiale, fino a Pupa Carnevale Miniati, che l'ha conservata con amore fino alla sua morte nell'inverno del 2020. Il FAI, per onorare il generoso e civile gesto della donatrice, ha deciso di aprire al pubblico fin da subito una parte della casa e del giardino perché la sua bellezza sia di conforto alla collettività dopo un periodo tanto difficile. Villa Rezzola, tuttavia, necessita di lavori di restauro e adeguamento lunghi e impegnativi, che il FAI potrà svolgere solo grazie al vostro contributo.

COSA SCOPRIRETE DURANTE LE GIORNATE FAI?
Alla scoperta della splendida Villa Rezzola, dimora affacciata sul Golfo dei Poeti dalle alture che sovrastano Lerici e magicamente inserita in un parco caratterizzato da componenti sia italiane che tardo romantiche vittoriane. Il giardino, incredibile esempio di arte applicata alla vita, si dipana lungo camminamenti costeggiati da piante ultracentenarie ed esotiche, posizionate secondo il gusto soggettivo e la competenza delle persone che l'hanno abitata e posseduta. I visitatori intraprenderanno un breve viaggio in un mondo antico dove la dimensione onirica talvolta oltrepassa la realtà di tutti i giorni e si intreccia per un attimo con le malinconiche pagine scritte dai più grandi poeti inglesi di inizio Ottocento, Percy B. Shelley e George Byron.

LA SPEZIA - AIR FORCE AMONG THE PEOPLE: CADIMARE AIRPORT AND BORGATA MARINARA
Cadimare "Luigi Conti" airport is located in the western part of the Gulf of La Spezia and dates back to the 1920s.

The flight activity, initially managed by the Navy, in 1923 became the responsibility of the newly-established Aeronautica Militare, which identified the area in the Cadimare bay for the construction of a seaplane base, where the Ansaldo company had warehouses for the assembly and testing of seaplanes for the Navy. This place plays an important role in the history of Italian aviation and culture: from here in fact a hydroplane took off for the first time and from this seaplane base the poet Marinetti used to leave for the flights that inspired the Aeropainting manifesto and the 'Aeropoema of the Gulf of La Spezia.

Although the buildings still have a nineteenth-century architectural style, they were erected in the 1920s together with the rest of the complex.

WHAT WILL YOU DISCOVER DURING THE DOING DAYS?
You will admire the Palazzina Comando with Liberty suggestions in the splendid internal staircase and in the wrought iron railing. We will visit the Officers' Building, built in 1928, designed by the architect and engineer Costantino Costantini, who had the task of creating a building that would serve both as accommodation and as a club for the officers of a flock of seaplanes. The constructive imprint of the building is clearly rationalist, characterized by maximum simplicity and functionality, both in the external aspect and in the internal distribution of the rooms. Made with precious building materials, such as brick, stone, marble, wood, glass and ceramics, it is built on the extreme south-east side of the bay of Cadimare, from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Gulf .
Inaugurated in 1934, it fits harmoniously into the green area that surrounds it. The volumes of the structure, which can be defined as "solar" and designed to be admired in the context of the Gulf scenery, are simple and elegant, with full and empty spaces created by the terraces on the various floors, of which the largest and most developed is the one on the ground floor. From a structural point of view we can recognize four parallelepipeds of various heights with flat roofs, characterized by different cut windows and sizes. The maximum development in height is given by the central body, with four floors above ground; on the sea side façade there are large windows that open onto the Gulf. In the Palazzina Officiali we will visit Italo Balbo's studio with the original furnishings and learn about the history of the Air Force and seaplanes through historical images from the archive and films. We will then visit the building that houses the Umberto Maddalena Institute, which is part of the National Opera for the Sons of Aviators (O.N.F.A.). Here too there will be finds from the Futurist era and it will be possible to know a particular aspect of the Air Force, not known to all, the philanthropic one, of assistance to the orphans of the Arma. ONFA, founded in 1931 in Gorizia and based at the Cadimare base since 1958, has as its purpose the reception of orphans of the Air Force for school attendance from the third grade to graduation and is dedicated to Umberto Maddalena. An important figure in the Italian Air Force, he was awarded numerous awards for his actions during World War I, he was among the members of the rescue teams in search of the shipwrecked people of the airship Italia commanded by General Umberto Nobile, lost in the Arctic and had a fundamental role in the organization of the Italy-Brazil transatlantic air cruise, the first mass Atlantic crossing. He died in March 1931 in the explosion of his S.64 Bis during a normal transfer flight.
In the garden you can then visit 4 ancient planes and a helicopter. The visit to the complex will allow you to get to know the history of aeronautics and its mission, the philanthropic aspect of assistance to the orphans of the Arma, the evolution of the aircraft, the Atlantic crossings, the architecture in the years of Futurism and its surroundings, a period that saw La Spezia and its surroundings the undisputed protagonist of that era.

LEVANTO, LA SPEZIA - PODERE CASE LOVARA
Stretching out towards the crystalline sea, the promontory of Punta Mesco separates the bay of Levanto from that of Monterosso. The 45 hectares owned by the FAI include three rural buildings, as well as lush wooded areas with holm oaks and pines, alternating with areas of Mediterranean scrub. Over time, the extraordinary coexistence between sea and vegetation allowed the development of an exceptional biodiversity, where the centuries-old presence of man was able to shape the territory with a skilful hand, without however altering the fragile ecological balance.

In 1999 the Cinque Terre National Park was established, whose new rules saved the area from several building projects but, at the same time, put an end to the long history of human settlement in Punta Mesco. When nature is left to itself, it can erase a history of centuries: the forest advances damaging the buildings, "eating" the crops until the dry stone walls that support the typical terraces collapse, which, in addition to creating spaces for cultivation, they perform a defense function against hydrogeological risk.

The donation allowed FAI, with the decisive support of the Zegna Foundation, to intervene with a project in compliance with the principles of the Park, at the same time returning the area to its historical function of agricultural production, whose energy needs will be provided for 60% from renewable sources.
The first phase of the recovery was characterized by the restoration of buildings and terraces, on which spaces were obtained useful for cultivating olive trees, vines and fruit trees and vegetable gardens. Visitors will find welcoming spaces, the possibility of making visits that tell the history and perspectives of the settlement, as well as valuable suggestions on the surroundings and on the numerous paths of one of the most typical and fascinating landscapes in all of Liguria.

WHAT WILL YOU DISCOVER DURING THE DOING DAYS?
Guided tour of the farm: we will tell the story of the promontory of Punta Mesco, of the people who lived there and of the FAI's mission in this place. We will also tell you about the biggest challenges we have faced and how we have overcome them by bringing back to life a slice of territory with a thousand years of history. Mini Trekking to Punta Mesco: with Marta, Environmental-Excursion Guide, we will go to the discovery of the Mediterranean scrub, walking between the Podere and the peak of Punta Mesco where the remains of the monastery of S. Antonio and the traffic light base of the Navy emerge, which we will hear the story with the breathtaking backdrop of the Cinque Terre. (True) stories of wolves: tales taken from historical facts, scientific data and personal experiences about this fascinating mammal that has now returned to be an integral part of our territory, against the backdrop of the Mediterranean forest of Punta Mesco. A chat to find out more, dispel myths and stimulate attention on the reality of the wild nature that surrounds us. LA SPEZIA - MUSEUM AND DOCUMENTATION CENTER OF THE OTO MELARA HISTORICAL ARCHIVE
Located at the factory of the former OTO Melara, today Leonardo's Electronics Division, the Historical Archive Consultation Center is also the seat of the Museo della Melara Association which, since 1985, has pursued the protection, promotion and enhancement of historical documents and the memory of the corporate past, through research and publications on the Archive and corporate culture.
The headquarters, inaugurated in December 2019, are equipped with multimedia stations for consulting the digitized video and photographic heritage. A core of historical films from the Restani Fund can be accessed from the “La Fabbrica in film” portal, recovered and reconditioned thanks to the support of the Compagnia di San Paolo, as part of the “Places of Culture” 2018 call. example, "Story of a man and an M113" (1965), a fascinating example of industrial cinema that combines actors with workers and workers, in which the creation of the M 113 armored vehicle is told through the story of a father and a son , in an ideal transition between generations.

LERICI, FRAZ. PUGLIOLA, LA SPEZIA - VILLA REZZOLA
Villa Rezzola is an ancient stately home immersed in a large and luxuriant terraced garden. Already documented in the eighteenth century, it stands on medieval remains of military origin and was progressively enlarged and modernized in the following two centuries. In 1900 it was bought by Helen Lavinia and William Percy Cochrane, authors of most of the transformations. The property passed in 1935 to Countess Mara Braida Carnevale and then to her daughter Maria Adele known as Pupa, who lived here with her husband Piero Gualberto Miniati and who with him decided to leave Villa Rezzola as an inheritance to FAI "so that it could be protected, valued and made accessible to many visitors ".

From the terraces of the house you can enjoy an exceptional view of the Gulf of Poets, which stretches from Lerici to Portovenere and which since the nineteenth century won the hearts of a large group of writers and artists, from Shelley and Byron to Lawrence. Equally exceptional is the English garden: a long pergola of wisteria crosses it, separating groves and cultivated areas - a rose garden, a vegetable garden and an orchard -, from a monumental lawn, furrowed by a walkway, bordered by hedges with flower pots and equipped with basins and fountains. Thanks to a solid organization of the botanical work, the complex water system and the presence of specific buildings, the plants intended for the garden and the cut flowers are created and grown directly on site. Many and various essences shade the park, rare and precious such as camphor and magnolia trees, but also cypresses, olive trees and a holm oak wood that extends over terraces that descend almost to the sea.

The interiors, perfectly preserved in the furnishings, decorations and family objects, tell the new and fascinating story of those who lived in the villa: from the Ligurian nobles Orazio and Elisa Botti, to the wealthy English spouses Cochrane, to the German captain Rudolf Jacobs during the World War II, up to Pupa Carnevale Miniati, who kept it with love until his death in the winter of 2020.
The FAI, to honor the generous and civil gesture of the donor, has decided to immediately open a part of the house and garden to the public so that its beauty may be of comfort to the community after such a difficult period. Villa Rezzola, however, requires long and demanding restoration and adaptation works, which the FAI will only be able to carry out thanks to your contribution.
