On the date of July 28, the Calendar of Saints recalls the figures of Nazario and Celso, known as Evangelizers of the Ligurian Land. In the ancient Pieve Matrice, located just above Borgomaro (IM), this memory of the two Saints, martyred in Milan in 304, is celebrated with solemnity.
In fact, since 2004, the Benedictine Monastic Community established there has taken care not only to complete the restoration of the parish church and the surrounding area, but also to make known and spread the cult of the two martyrs.
The festive day of Wednesday 28 July will culminate with the celebration of the Solemn Holy Mass at 11.00. The Eucharistic celebration will be presided over by the Benedictine Abbot Dom Roberto Dotta, a native of Imperia.
With the exception of liturgical moments, there are no other appointments that the current anti-covid rules would make it very cumbersome to manage.
Nevertheless, the Liturgical Celebration will be no less solemn but made even more singular by the blessing that will be imparted to the chalice and paten, made with gold and silver donated by benefactors for the greater decorum of the liturgy and as thanks for the gift of bodily health preserved in the year of the pandemic. The realization of the two precious artifacts was entrusted to the Vetrucci Pierluigi Goldsmith's Laboratory in Piacenza, already known for its creations and restorations in the field of sacred art.
